Welcome to the home page of the Windy City Traditional Karate Tournament.
This unique event originated as a dream in 1987 by Joe Gonzalez Sensei, and a group of dedicated Karateka Directors that shared his belief of having an annual event for athletes of all ages to participate in an arena that is safe, fun, and fair without bias. One does not need to belong to or join a particular organization to compete at the WC. Traditional Japanese Shotokan and Okinawan clubs, not only from around the United States, but also International Dojos are invited to participate in our annual event. For over twenty years the WC has grown to include US and International clubs. The WC offers events for: children ages 5-12, teens, and adults. Many novice divisions have a round-robin system for competition, allowing several match opportunities. International rules of Ippon Shobu are used.
Set in the neighboring suburbs of Chicago. There are many opportunities for sight-seeing, shopping, casual and fine dining in the surrounding area. Activities: from museums, zoos, to cultural events, casinos, and much more will make your event enjoyable for the whole family. The tournament site is conveniently located from O'Hare International airport, several major expressways, and public transportation. Accommodations have special rates and the WC offers Club Directors a complimentary room for one night at the host hotel (Please see details in the tournament packet.).
